A recent LifeHacker thread on natural water flavoring has me thinking I should have a couple of small pots in the office, so I can grow cucumber and mint. Â I’d have never thought to put a sliver of cucumber skin in my water. Â Cucumber under fluorescent lighting should do fine, and mint is impossible to kill.

The best thing about cold weather is drinking wassail.
Get a big pot. Put in:
- 2 parts apple juice
- 1 part cranberry juice
- 1 part orange juice
- throw in some allspice
- throw in a few cinammon sticks
Heat it up, without boiling, letting it soak up the cinammon and allspice. Lovely.

Here’s one of the best foods around — fried zucchini ["biologically, the zucchini is a fruit, being the swollen ovary of the zucchini flower" -- didn't know that].
- Mix together some raw eggs in a big bowl.
- Put some corn meal in another bowl.
- Cut up your zucchini into thin slices.
- Dip them in the egg.
- Dip them in the corn meal.
- Fry ‘em up in vegetable oil until they’re lightly golden. Put them on layers of paper towels immediately, to soak up the extra oil.
I generally eat about half of them before they’re ever put on the table. Yummy.
