CCNA Exam Prep book (Que Publishing)

June 27th, 2006 by Jason Filley · No Comments · Book Errata

The CCNA Exam Prep book from Que Publishing doesn’t have an errata page, so I’ll post my notes here.

Pg. 86
FDDI is introduced, though the acronym isn’t expanded (”Fiber Distributed Data Interface”).  Compare to CDDI in NOTE following.

Pg. 125
Table 4.4 is wrong.  The heading says, “Binary-to-Decimal Conversion of 10101010” [160], but the bits shown are 10110000 [176].
Pg. 128
In Figure 4.2, the decimal value of “F” is shown as 25 but should be 15.

Under heading “Converting Decimal to Hexadecimal,” the binary value of 141 is listed as 10010001, even though it was worked out, directly above it, as 10001101.
Pg. 147
The heading of the page is “IPv6” and shouldn’t be.

Pg. 191
Telntetted” should be “telnetted.”

Pg. 193
I’m pretty sure “megabits” was intended to be “megabytes.”

Pg. 247
“For example, to back up the IOS stored in Flash, your command would look something like the following:

Router#copy tftp flash

The correct command is:

Router#copy flash tftp

The usage of copy is: copy source destination
Pg. 255
“command show” should be “command shows.”

“interface statues” should be “interface status.”
Pg. 286
In NOTE, “access later switch” should be access layer switch.”

Pg. 289
“the switches priority” should be “the switch’s priority.”

Pg. 311
“in the originally ethernet frame” should be “in the original ethernet frame.”

Pg. 337
“receives the frame addresses to its interface” should be “receives the frame addressed to its interface.”

Pg. 346
“classful routing protocols will updates in one of two ways” should be “classful routing protocols will update in one of two ways.”

Pg. 371
The routing table is coming from the 172.17.0.0/16 group, when it should be coming from router C.  Ventriloquism.

Pg. 391
Figure 11.16 makes no sense.  What path?  From where to where (A, presumably)?  Where does “160″ come from?  There’s no route that can equal 160.

Pg. 412
Area 51 is mentioned in the popup dialogue but isn’t shown on the map.

Pg. 417
“the Router ID of new router” should be “the Router ID of the new router.”

Pg. 420
The whole inverse mask explanation is long-winded.  All you need to know is in the “Tip” box.

Pg. 471
brevety” should be “brevity.”

Pg. 511
53interface” should be “53 interface.”

Pg. 512
Although technically correct, “NAT_Router#conf t” should have been written fully, as “NAT_Router#configure terminal.”

Pg. 519
I’m not sure how this would have happened but “ip nat inside source static tcp 172.16.1.80 80 interface serial 0 ?” became “ip nat inside static tcp 172.16.1.80 80 interface serial 0 80″ — the “source” got dropped.

Pg. 556
“You now have the Daniel rotuer configured” should be “You now have the Daniel router configured.”

Pg. 559
Although technically correct, “Daniel#u all” should have been written fully, as “Daniel#undebug all.”

Pg. 577
“no shudown” should be “no shutdown.”

Pg. 587
“Frodo’s IP address is 480-222-2222″ is wrong.   Frodo’s IP address is 10.1.1.2; Frodo’s phone number is 480-222-2222.
Pg. 628
“so now it’s time get out to priveleged mode” should be “so now it’s time to get out to priveleged mode.”
